Giving Back:

How JCW’s Volunteer Scheme Enabled One Team Member to Support the Welsh Ambulance Service

At JCW, we believe in the importance of giving back. Through our Employer Supported Volunteering initiative, we are proud to support our people in making a meaningful difference within their communities. One such inspiring example comes from Conar, an Electrician and Fire Alarm Engineer based in our Cardiff office.

Conar recently qualified as a Volunteer Responder with the Welsh Ambulance Service Trust (WAST), a role which sees him attending appropriate 999 and 111 calls in his local area. These volunteers are often the first on the scene, assessing patients and, where required, providing life-saving treatment before an ambulance arrives.

Reflecting on the experience, Conar shared:

“It’s an incredible privilege to be able to go out and give back to my local community, and I was really happy when I passed my final exams and was presented with my ‘greens’. Being able to take a step up and support NHS Wales in a climate with such long Ambulance wait times and immense pressures placed upon them is a really good feeling.”

Supportive Culture

This achievement is not only a testament to Conar’s dedication and compassion, but also to the supportive culture we strive to foster at JCW. Thanks to the encouragement of his manager, Rhys and the flexibility of the wider Cardiff team, Conar was able to complete his training during working hours.

“I wouldn’t have been able to pursue this opportunity without the support and backing of Rhys and the wider JCW team. It’s massively generous of JCW to accommodate the training during the working week - it made a huge difference.”

Committed to Community

We’re incredibly proud of Conar and all of our employees who use their volunteer days to support causes close to their hearts. Whether it’s responding to emergencies or assisting local charities, our people are making a real impact - and we’re honoured to stand behind them every step of the way.
