Building Skills, Building Careers: Brendan Journey at JCW
/At JCW, we believe that the development of our people is one of the most important investments we can make. By supporting employees with training, qualifications and career development opportunities, we help them expand their skills, progress their careers and continue delivering the high standards our clients expect. Ipswich Engineer Supervisor, who embodies this commitment to growth is Brendan, whose career journey demonstrates how dedication, hard work and the right support can create new opportunities.
Having joined JCW in February 2019 as a qualified plumber, Brendan brought with him valuable industry experience and an Unvented Hot Water qualification. Prior to joining the company, he worked as a commercial plumber at one of Europe's largest distribution warehouses and had also run his own plumbing and heating business, carrying out installations within domestic and residential properties. These experiences provided a strong technical foundation and helped shape the engineer and supervisor he is today.
When Brendan was first approached about joining JCW, one of his key questions was whether there would be opportunities for career progression. At the time, one of his ambitions was to gain his ACS Gas qualification and become a qualified Gas Engineer. After learning that JCW actively supported employees who demonstrated commitment and a strong work ethic, he decided to take the leap and join the business.
Over the past seven and a half years, Brendan has worked across a wide range of sites and projects, including well-known clients such as PureGym, Next and Victoria's Secret. During that time, he has continued to develop his knowledge and broaden his skill set through both practical experience and formal training. His dedication was recognised in June 2023 when he was promoted to Engineer Supervisor, leading a team of engineers across multiple disciplines.
Alongside his promotion, Brendan achieved another major milestone by successfully gaining his ACS Gas qualification in August 2023. JCW has continued to support his professional development since then, helping him complete his Unvented Hot Water reassessment, as well as PASMA and IPAF qualifications. Most recently, he successfully achieved his OFTEC Oil qualification in September 2026, adding another specialist skill to his growing portfolio.
Reflecting on his latest achievement, Brendan described passing his OFTEC qualification as a great sense of achievement and an opportunity to continue developing within the industry. He is particularly keen to gain hands-on experience in oil-fired systems and further expand his expertise.
For Brendan, one of the standout aspects of working at JCW is the support network around him. He speaks highly of the relationships he has built with engineers, office staff and senior management, as well as the teamwork and willingness of colleagues to help one another whenever needed. This supportive environment, combined with opportunities to learn and progress, has played a key role in his success.
Looking ahead, Brendan hopes to achieve his Commercial Gas qualification and continue supporting both his team and JCW's clients. His journey is a great example of what can be achieved through ambition, commitment and continuous learning, and highlights JCW's ongoing commitment to helping employees build rewarding, long-term careers.
