After our first full year providing Disaster Recovery services to our clients, we now have a full range of case studies to refer to. From fire and flood, to drainage and vandalism, we have seen disasters caused both by nature and people. Here are just some of them:

Case Study 1 - July Uninvited Guests

Our commercial Disaster Recovery Team was kept very busy aiding the reopening of a leisure and entertainment site. Lock down was easing in July and more non-essential businesses in the leisure, retail and commercial sector were returning to their premises. Many of these buildings may have laid empty for long periods in between site checks. Opportunists took advantage of lock down to trespass, break in and make use of the empty premises for personal and unmentionable activities. When JCW were asked to help with this unexpected recovery procedure, we wanted to make sure this client was ready to open for the public, issue free, clean and compliant.

We removed over 50 needles from the site, and erected 75 meters of 3-meter-high perimeter fencing and gates as threats had been made by the same perpetrators caught using the premise, threatening to return.

Case Study 2 - Sewage disaster

Our clients premises. which is located beneath a block of flats, has a joint drainage system running directly through our client’s premises. A high build up of internal scale within the pipework, which had gone unnoticed, caused the flats main sewage line to rupture. With the entire premises approximately 1.75m under sewage water, JCW responded quickly and began the process of deep cleaning, which took a total of 2 days to complete.

Due to our in house plumbing capabilities, we were able to fit a temporary bracket around the pipework to manage the leak. This was followed up with the removal of contaminated items and subsequent fabric works to repair the damage caused.

Case Study 3 - Burst mains disaster

Our leisure client has a standalone unit, located within a retail park, in Stafford and contacted us about a burst water mains. Due to the high intensity of the water leak, which was fed directly off the main water exit, the water had flooded in both the gym and car park. JCW responded to the emergency call and found the premises to be approximately 1 metre submerged in water - much of the equipment lay ruined beyond repair.

A deep clean of the entire premises was carried out. This was followed up with removal of contaminated items and subsequent fabric repair works to enable the gym to reopen.

Case Study 4 - Commercial Fire Disaster

Due to a faulty commercial dishwasher, fire broke out in the kitchen area of our client’s site. The kitchen, of this game and entertainment facility, was immediately put out of action and the restaurant closed, which instantly effecting trade. Our Emergency Help Desk logged the call on the Sunday and our engineers attended site.

Due to our in-house electrical and fire alarm capabilities, our engineers were able to ensure the electrics were made safe. Subsequently our deep cleaning team removed Hazardous Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment and cleaned the fire and smoke damaged area to enable the site to re-open.
