Work Experience Spotlight: Cameron

Cameron Work Experience

At JCW, we believe in giving young people early exposure to real-world engineering environments. This July, we were delighted to welcome Cameron Edwards for a week-long work experience placement, shadowing one of our HVAC Service Engineers, who also happens to be his dad, Aaron.

On-Site from Day One

Cameron began his placement with a full Health & Safety induction, ensuring he was properly briefed before joining his dad out on the tools. It turned out to be a particularly busy week, with soaring temperatures across the country keeping our HVAC teams on their toes.

From day one, Cameron experienced the fast-paced nature of reactive work, including a hotel emergency call-out, air conditioning repairs for overheated office spaces and the installation of a split system in a critical university area. It was a varied week, offering a true taste of life as an HVAC engineer.

Learning by Doing

Working alongside Aaron gave Cameron the chance to learn about the fundamentals of air conditioning systems and the refrigeration cycle. He observed day-to-day fault-finding, installations and client interaction, gaining insight into both the technical and practical sides of engineering in the built environment.

Could This Be a Future Apprentice?

Cameron showed real interest throughout the placement, asking questions and getting hands-on where appropriate. His enthusiasm didn’t go unnoticed by the team.

"It’s great to see young people like Cameron getting involved early,” said Alan, our Regional Director. “Work experience placements like this are a valuable opportunity, not only to inspire the next generation but to show them just how many career paths exist within building services engineering. Cameron did really well and who knows, we may be welcoming him back as an apprentice in a few years’ time!”

Looking Ahead

Cameron left the week with a clearer understanding of what a career in HVAC engineering might involve and, perhaps more importantly, with a sense of pride in what his dad does every day.

We’d like to thank Aaron for his support, and Cameron for throwing himself into the experience with such enthusiasm. It was a pleasure having him on board, and we look forward to following his journey.
