Its beginning to look a lot like…. well we think it’s officially OK to talk about Christmas now! While we get ready for that wonderful time of togetherness, lots of gifts and the abundance of food, we can not forget those who may see little of those luxuries and creature comforts.

An estimated 320,000 people are homeless, almost 5,000 are rough sleeping, figures from 2017 shows 726 people died homeless in England and Wales. Also with in excess of 800,000 emergency food parcels distributed to people in crisis, by food banks in the Trussell Trust network between April to September 2019, poverty is on the rise too, we all really need to do our bit to help.

For another year running JCW have decided to collect food, as well as Items, to go to our local homeless and food bank charities. We know this is only a temporary solution to tackle the homeless issue and people living below the poverty line, this is why staff at the office also organise monthly monetary collections throughout the year, for various chosen charities. It’s our small way of helping to tackle our communities’ problems from the root cause.

Caring at Christmas

JCW in Bristol is supporting Caring in Bristol, this charity is the creator of project Caring at Christmas, first formed in 1987. Every year, from the 23rd of December to the 1st of January, shelter, warmth, activities, emotional and medical support are given. Food and company are also shared, so people spend the festive period together. Our office are collecting, warm clothing, blankets, toiletries and books, as well as dry foods and instant drinks.

Christmas Shoebox Appeal

JCW in Cardiff is supporting the homeless in their local area by getting involved with Garnsychan Partnership’s “Christmas Shoebox Appeal”. The team will be helping put together “shoeboxes” containing a variety of emergency items such as underpants, toothpaste, wipes, dry foods and even note pads, and puzzles. This may not sound like much to us, but it makes a huge difference to someone that has nothing.

Once, We Were Soldiers

The Leicester office is supporting midland bases homeless charity Once, We Were Soldiers. OWWS’s purpose is to raise awareness to UK’s homeless veteran situation, and that many of them are where they are whilst suffering with PTSD or other mental health conditions. We wanted to support OWWS this year by donating towards their checklist of items, which make up the “Care Packages” for distributing to the homeless veterans.

Trussell Trust

JCW in Ipswich is supporting the Trussell Trust, the local food bank branch was established in 2008 and offers more than the provision of emergency 3 day food parcels. The charity’s goal is to stop UK Hunger, by helping people break free from poverty and to eventually remove the need for food banks all together.
